Misir Alicha - mild lentil

Serves: 3-4 people

Serving

  • Serve with injera (Ethiopian flatbread) or rice, salad or whatever.

Ingredients

1 cup of red split lentils

1 cup of chopped tomatoes

1 ½   tbsp of turmeric powder

2 finely chopped large onions

¼ cup vegetable oil

1 tbsp of garlic

1 tbsp of ginger

1 cup of boiling water

Salt to taste

Preparation

  1. Wash the lentil and put it aside.

  2. In a saucepan,  cook the onion in a medium heat until soft.

  3. Add oil and cook till it is light & golden brown.

  4. Add tumeric and stir for 1 minute.  Add the tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes, stirring gently.

  5. Add hot water, lentils, garlic, ginger, and salt and cook for 15 min by stirring occasionally to prevent mixture from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
